Cory Wilkerson is a Children’s Theatre Artist with experience both on stage and off as a children’s entertainer, children’s playwright and a director of theatre for and by youth. Ms. Wilkerson earned her master’s degree in Theatre from Villanova University and holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education/Theatre from the State University of New York. She specializes in creative dramatics and drama techniques that integrate theatre arts and critical thinking skills, allowing children to use drama for problem solving. Ms. Wilkerson studied with internationally known experts Lynne Clarke of Queen Margaret’s College, Edinburgh, Scotland and Anna Scher of the Anna Scher Children’s Theatre, London, England.
“Theatre is a cooperative aesthetic language that allows children to access a powerful tool – their imaginations." says Ms. Wilkerson. “Theatre lets us climb into the story and experience people, places and events a totally different way. Think of the possibilities!”
Currently, Ms. Wilkerson is Artistic Director of WOW! Theatre Programs- a theatre company devoted to producing original high quality interactive plays for children. As a solo artist Ms. Wilkerson has made her talents available to schools and organizations in central Pennsylvania designing residency programs in storytelling, playwriting and theatre production. Ms. Wilkerson also has extensive directing credits- directing both youth and adults. Since 1997, Ms. Wilkerson has been an advocate for theatre arts K-12 as a Theatre Consultant to the PA Department of Education, assisting on several significant arts education publications, including the Pennsylvania Arts Assessment Through Themes Handbooks and the PA Theatre Frameworks.
